And that smile — the slow one, the real one, the one that started in her eyes and took its time — broke across her face like sunrise over Dal Lake.

"You came," she said.

"I came."

"It took you long enough."

"I had some things to figure out."

"And did you?"

He walked across the courtyard and stood in front of her. Behind him, he could feel Mr. Sharma watching from the doorway. He didn't care.

He opened the sketchbook to the last page — a drawing he'd done on the flight. It was the two of them, on the deck of the houseboat, looking at the stars. But in this version, they weren't silhouettes. They had faces. Hers was accurate — he'd drawn her enough times to get it right. His was turned toward her, and on his face was something that needed no caption.

Meera took the sketchbook. Looked at the drawing. Looked at him.

"I dealt with my life," he said. "The apartment is gone. I told my parents everything. I have a job — a real one, not scaffolding. I draw every day. And I stopped being the person Nandini managed. I'm not perfect. I'm probably still a renovation. But I'm done waiting."

She stood up from the swing. Stood right in front of him, close enough that he could see the flecks of gold in her dark eyes.

"My father thinks you're insane," she said.

"Probably fair."

"My aunt thinks you're a con artist."

"Less fair."

"I think —" She swallowed. "I think I missed you every single day."

He kissed her. In the courtyard. In front of the tulsi plant and the drying clothes and her father in the doorway and the distant sound of the flower seller's bangles clinking as she arranged her marigolds.

Mr. Sharma cleared his throat.

They pulled apart, breathless, slightly embarrassed, entirely sure.

"Will you stay for chai?" Mr. Sharma asked. It was not an invitation. It was the beginning of a negotiation.

"Yes, uncle," Arjun said. "I'd love to."

They sat in the courtyard — Arjun, Meera, and her father — drinking chai from steel cups. Mr. Sharma asked questions: job, family, plans, intentions. Arjun answered honestly. He didn't exaggerate or perform. He was simply himself — the new self, the rebuilt self, the one who drew and noticed light and understood that some trains don't have destinations, only directions.

By the time the chai was finished, Mr. Sharma's expression had softened from suspicion to something cautious and warm. Not approval, not yet. But the door was open.

"Maa would have liked him," Meera said to her father after Arjun left that evening.

Mr. Sharma took off his glasses, cleaned them on his shirt — his habitual gesture when processing emotions. "Yes," he said quietly. "She would have."

On the walk back to his hotel, Arjun passed the Hanuman temple. The flower seller was packing up for the day. She looked at him and smiled — a knowing, ancient kind of smile.

"Mil gaye?" she asked. Did you find her?

"Mil gaye," he said.
