SIX MONTHS LATER

Kishkindha was still officially unofficial.

But the forest department had quietly added forty square kilometers of new protected forest buffer around the Nagarhole zone. Three courts had issued injunctions. A new environmental review board had been constituted. The minister's nephew was under investigation.

And in the eastern quarter of Kishkindha, on the wall where the old script had first lit up gold under Arya's hand, someone had added a new carving.

Not in the ancient script. In simple Kannada, the language of the state.

We are still here.

Below it, smaller:

We were always here.

And below even that, in the handwriting of a twenty-four-year-old woman who had never been good at listening to people who told her something couldn't be done:

We're not going anywhere.

Author's Note on the World:

The Vanara people in this story are not gods. They are not monsters. They are a community — ancient, tired of hiding, proud of what they have survived, and figuring out, like all communities do, how to exist in a world that was not built with them in mind.

The Adhama is not evil in any simple sense. It is the weight of things left unfinished — wars unforgiven, grief unprocessed, stories that never found their ending. The antidote is not power. It is completion.

The bridge that Vanaras built to Lanka — that really is the story. Ordinary people, afraid, who built an impossible thing because someone asked them to believe it was possible.

That's still the story.
